A league that has been running a decade has a history nobody can recall accurately. A record book fixes that — but only if it records the right things and settles its conventions before a result depends on them.
The records that matter
Titles and finishes
- Championships, runners-up, third places — the podium is the spine of any league's story.
- Average finish across all seasons, which is the honest measure of a career.
- Last-place finishes. In most leagues these are remembered longer than the titles.
Single-week records
- Highest and lowest scores ever.
- Most points in a loss, and fewest points in a win — where the schedule's cruelty lives.
- Biggest blowout and closest margin.
Head to head
Every manager against every other manager, all-time. This is the single most-argued-about number in any league, and the only one that ends arguments.
Conventions to settle first
These are house rules, not facts, and a record book has to pick one and say so.
How last place is decided
Two defensible answers. Either the worst regular-season record, or whoever loses the consolation bracket. Leagues that treat the toilet bowl as a real competition use the bracket; leagues that consider it a formality use the record. They disagree often, so the choice has to be explicit.
What counts as making the playoffs
Usually just qualifying for the bracket. It gets complicated in leagues with divisions, where a division winner can qualify on a worse record than a team that misses — so a rule based purely on record will contradict the actual bracket.
Where the regular season ends
Most leagues run fourteen weeks, but not all. Records computed on the wrong boundary quietly include playoff weeks in regular-season totals.
Whatever you choose, write it down inside the record book. The value of a history is that nobody can relitigate it later.
What to do about seasons that predate your platform
Do not throw them away. A finishing order alone is enough to include a season in titles, podiums and average finish. Mark those seasons clearly so nobody mistakes a missing score for a zero.
